Good luck to them.

There are a couple of people selling signed copies of Taking Comfort on ebay now. One of them has even scanned in the title page with my scrawl on it; 'TO MUM, WITH LOVE...' Only joking. It actually just has my signature and the date 6/4/06. It'll knock you back 30 quid.

I know from that date that it must have been one of the books I signed for Goldsboro Books. You can buy an equivalent item, signed and dated with the same pre-publication date, direct from Goldsboro for £12.99. Hmm. £30 or £12.99? It's a tough call I know. But personally I'd go for Goldsboro Books as David and Dan are such great guys. Oh, and I won't get a penny out of the ebay resale.

Win a Twirl mug

I had a cup of coffee out of a Twirl mug at the weekend. It was a wonderful experience. Remember, you have the chance to win just such an item - or should I say icon - in my on-going quiz. See The other Bob's books for details.

Well there's good news and bad news here.

The good news is that the ebay seller (a bookseller of some sort) has invested in a 1st edition signed copy, presumably because they think you are headed for the big league.

The bad news is that no one's actually made an offer yet.

It's bad news for the ebay seller but it makes no odds to me. And actually why should anyone bid £30 and upwards for something they can get for £12.99 elsewhere? It's crazy. Mind you, once Goldsboro have sold out their initial stock, that ebay seller may have a more marketable commodity. But £30? Jeez.

Incidentally, there is a way to tell the difference between the genuine first editions and the reprints. Actually, there are two ways. I think I should offer a prize - perhaps a box of tetley teabags - for anyone who can tell me tone of them.

That should have ended 'one of them'.

Well, while one second-hand copy of one of my books is going for ten times the retail price on Amazon, other copies are going for a penny...

Hello Fiction Bitch, if only we knew who you were and what your book is called we could go and see! Hey, that Robert McCrum's been writing articles again I see. You know, I don't think he's half as funny as he thinks he is, but that may just be me. I really ought to be careful. The last person I need to make an enemy of is Robert McCrum.

Yeah, well, that's the beauty of anonymity...

It's too late, you're already an enemy of Robert McCrum ... writing books without his permission, getting them published, daring to get people to read them without his personal imprimatur of quality on them ... what where you thinking?

Roger Morris said...

Ah, Disgruntled! Do you really think so? Then I may as well give up now... s Robert Mc

Oh my God, I think Robert McCrum's got him ...

That was weird. Maybe I was McCrummed. Maybe the man is more powerful than we think. I was going to type ssjaur Robert Mcnnnnvch but it came out as gibberish.

Roger Morris said...

Jeepers, it did it again. Whenever I try to type anything disparaging about the man it comes out as gibberish. He must have made some kind of pact with Bill Gates. Or the devil. Or someone. Well, that's the last time I try to badmouth Mr McYouknowwho

Hey, your book looks really interesting. I think I might buy it. (From Amazon, not ebay.)

Thanks Julia, that's brilliant. I hope you do (buy it) and hope you like it too! Thanks for looking in.

Roger.
