The surrealism of detective fiction

Interesting post, Roger. I appreciate a different look at the mystery/crime genre. I recently read The Manual of Detection by Jedediah Berry. Not nearly as surreal as The Third Policeman by Flann O'Brien but up there compared to what I normally read - you know, books about investigating magistrates in St. Petersberg.
